Crossing The Nullarbor- SA To WA

Updated: Jun 20, 2023

We completed Australia’s Iconic Drive from South Australia to Western Australia, The Nullarbor Plain. The journey starts in Ceduna in SA and finishes in Norseman in WA, stretching over 1200 kms.

A great little stop is the windmill museum at Penong, home to the windmill named The Comet, standing at 35 foot it really is mesmerising listening to the noise as it spins in the wind….

Just 15km south of Penong is Lake MacDonnell, a beautiful pink salt lake BUT be warned it’s not always pink! The vibrancy of the colour is dependant on water levels and unfortunately it was pure white when we arrived, but still worth a visit.

Never Expected To Find Such An Awesome Spot On The NULLARBOR…we drove down to Fowlers Bay and then out to Scott’s Beach Camp ground. It was so beautiful and there was no-one there! We camped behind the dunes but just a small walk up the dune you can enjoy a little tipple whilst watching the sun go down.

Murrawijinie caves- Have YOU Been Here? Would YOU Climb Down? We couldn’t see a safe way down and as you can see there was no one else around for miles. Think we’ve watched too many thrillers, could envision us stuck down there and unable to get out!…. You can safely organise a cave tour with a group but we never realised until afterwards.

To find these caves you can pick up a map from The Nullarbor Roadhouse.

This Has To Be The Highlight Of The Nullarbor….Camping At The Bunda Cliffs…you feel like you’ve reached the end of the world! The views are absolutely spectacular and the sunsets are stunning. It did get a little bit windy so we did move slightly further back…..so Gary could sleep LOL 😂
